Do you know what’s interesting? People believe that the phrase ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’ is a scripture when in fact it is not. But cleanliness is a Godly attribute and principle that provides MAJOR benefits to those who implement it in their lives.
I Corinthians 14:40 scripture says that all things should be done decently and in order. Anything that represents God and His ways will always be honored by Him. You don’t have to be a Christian to be in position to benefit from the ways of God. His word will never be broken and so even if an unbeliever decides to tap into the ways or laws of God they will see a difference. (Take a look at my book 21 Laws that Rule the World to gain more insight on this principle which is free for a limited time.)
I Corinthians 14:40 and I Corinthians 14:33 (which says that God is not the author of confusion) that embody the law of order. The law of order says the world and things within it is disorderly but your intentional actions can put necessary order into what is in disarray and create major benefits. Take a look at three of the major blessings you will experience once you decide to live of order which is in line with doing things decently and in order.
1. It releases the blessing.
Cleanliness (and organization) puts you in a position to have expedient closure for projects, situations and contracts. Nehemiah experienced a quickening of the repairing of the walls due to the fact that he was organized in finishing the work he had set out to do. The rebuilding of walls around an entire city was completed in 52 days! A work that extensive should have taken a minimum of 3 months to complete but the blessing of God was there and the work was done expeditiously.
2. It allows you to stay focused.
Focused people get things done and they get them done excellently. A double minded man is unstable in all of his ways. Being double minded means you are neither here or there, you’re unable to make solid decisions; one day you’re convinced of this the next day you’re convinced of that. You must be convinced in not in a few of his ways but in all of his ways. When you implement cleanliness & structure to your life you cut out doubt. When doubt is cut out you can focus your faith on that ‘thing’ which will cause quick manifestation. Nehemiah was focused on building up the walls and when others wanted to distract him he uttered his famous words to them, “I am doing a great work, I cannot come down.”
3. It makes room for the overflow.
God is not a God of disorder. We live in a world that is full of disorder due to sin but He always operates in the means of reestablishing proper order through His Son. Therefore a life of order and cleanliness denotes the ability to be a good steward over what He has already given to you. This now qualifies and positions you to receive more than what you already have. Scripture says he who has will be given more (Matthew 25:29).
Order and cleanliness is not an easy thing to establish in your life. It takes a conscious decision to maintain it but the benefits are well worth it. In a world full of disarray and disorder, cleanliness is the means of imitating a great characteristic of God with divine results!
